Tartan Hills Village is mainly made up of VDOT (Virginia Department of Transportation) controlled streets. This means that the State maintains most of the streets in our neighborhood. However, there is one street off of Broadsword Drive that is maintained by the homeowners that live off of it: Chapeltown Mews.
Being that Chapeltown Mews is the first right turn off of Broadsword Drive, and is very quick way for residents near, or on, the Newtonmore Place cul-de-sac to get home, Newtonmore residents have been using this a through street. We are asking that to stop. Chapeltown Mews is a private drive, just like any of the pipe stems off of VDOT controlled streets like Kirkmichael, Dunnegan Head and so on. These are not intended to be through streets. The residents of Chapeltown Mews, having to maintain this road with their own money, would like to ask that any resident who does not live on Chapeltown Mews to no longer use their private road as a through street. Cutting down to resident only traffic will increase the lifespan of this private road. Please be courteous to your Chapeltown Mews neighbors and refrain from driving down this street to cut through to Newtonmore Place. |

I must admit, I have been logging some serious time with the new GREEN television network. So I will give credit to the ideas we're about to go over, to their one of their best programs: WASTED. What do you do when you come to the end of your toilet paper or paper towel roll? Throw out the tube? STOP. It's cardboard. Recycle it! What do you do when you received unwanted catalogs in the mail? Throw them away? FIRST: call to remove yourself from the mailing list (your mailbox and trees around the world will thank you). THEN: place them with your paper recyclables. What do you do with cereal boxes and such when they are empty? Toss them in the trash can? NOT ANYMORE. These are also cardboard recyclables. Throw in the recycle bin. We all tend to think of recycle as cans and plastic water bottles. Expanding your recycle with these few steps will make a tremendous impact on the environment, and to your recycle bin. Like me, you may need to take periodic trips to the Recycling Center on Balls Ford Road, because you are generating SO MUCH recycle. That's a good feeling. I will definitely be lobbying for two recycle pickups per week next time our trash contract comes around. In the meantime, if your recycle bin if just too full, you can contact AAA for another bin. 703-818-8222. |

Everyone has been anxiously awaiting our new traffic light at Sudley Manor Drive and Tartan Hills Parkway. Installation started this summer and seemed it would never end. Finally, this past week, the traffic light became fully functional.
Be aware, since the installation of the light, State Troopers have been waiting in the wings of Sudley Manor Drive to catch speeders. The speed limit on the road remains 45 mph, so please heed it. Your pocket book will thank you! So will the many families that are regularly walking on the side of the road with their small children and pets. |

An October 4th drive through the Tartan Hills Village subassociation indicated nearly 80 homes in violation of Braemar's Trash Can convenant. If your home was in violation, you will first be warned. If the problem is not corrected, you begin accruing fines. The Board would like to remind residents of our community trash policy. Trash pickup occurs twice weekly on Monday and Thursday. Recycle is collected on Monday only. Residents should leave their trash cans at the curb either the night before pickup after 6:00pm, or early the morning of pickup, prior to 6:00am. Normally, trash is collected between 8:00am and Noon. Trash cans should be stored out of sight on non-trash collection days. Out of sight does not mean on the side of your home, as many residents are currently doing. And we can all agree that our of sight is not in front of your garage. Please store your trash cans in the back of your home or INSIDE your garage. Inside your garage will also help minimize the disturbence of garbage by raccoons.
Please be sure to secure all of you garbage and recycle as this helps keep the community clean. All recycleable items and trash should be bagged and placed within the provided container. If you are missing a recycle bin or trash can, you can contact AAA at (703) 818-8222. |
